For me, the Respond vs Plan idea reads more as a caution against the idea of too much/perfect planning biases which seeks to transplant reality into overly neat rows to be checked off rather than a call for 'doing it live'.

The problem is, 19th century prussian generals, however correct they might have been, just don't resonate with technology executives who do not take their roles as leaders and strategists seriously enough to read how to do them well. What resonates is pithy soundbites that agree with their, often reductive, always paternalistic, way of thinking.

The fact is, most enterprises where I have friends in leadership are gutting their agilists out of the orgs and doubling up on Project Managers who'll make them perfect gantt charted lies. While we may value the things on the left more, they value the right the most. ;-)
